Brief non-Goa interlude

Maverick dabbled in a few power yoga classes when I started up in 2005 but it never really stuck for him as he was surfing and running and doing lots of other things. It has been years since he's done any yoga.

He finally took a beginner Ashtanga class this weekend (Primary to Navasana) and had this to say the following day:

"I hurt in all the places you've ever complained about."

I am loving this.

Heh! Hard not feel smug, I'll bet!

the smugness will be shortlived! I have a feeling the kid is going to be a natural. I'm really excited though, this is going to be a lot of fun!

Cool, I'm taking it that it hurts everywhere but his wrist. Did you work out a way for him to modify?

Hi Helen - surprisingly he didn't need anything in the level 1 class! I think they may have done fewer sun salutations and fewer vinyasas so he was actually OK. He said the downdogs (which usually don't bother him) were the parts that hurt the most so he's trying to distribute his weight back into his heels to help this.

the power yoga classes we did a few years back had a lot of long-hold planks and side planks and longer updogs and chaturangas so it might be these that caused him pain back in 2005...if that's the case, he might actually be OK with traditional ashtanga where we only hold them half a breath (except downdog)...i also asked nancy about his predicament when i was in goa and i'll be posting about it soon!

Cool, hopefully he can build it up in time. Presumably he spoke to the teacher, they should be able to help him work it out.
